This is just a small note to say hello, as it's been already a month since the last post. The last few weeks have been busy with the development of new projects, supporting DS during his final school exams, organizing the summer and university for the autumn, as well as the usual of running a business and taking care of my family and dogs. This didn't leave me with time to blog, but all is happy and well.

I miss blogging and will get to it again as soon as I can. It's been a busy early summer, and I am still very much immersed in new projects and working on new ideas. Having not had much time to shop, I'm accessorizing trusted wardrobe essentials instead. Some of these go back to the early days of the blog (the purple sweater was featured in2010), while most of the others go back half a decade, which also includes the scarves and bracelets. Love them as much now as I did then, and with the arrival of the new generation long gemstone necklaces it was great fun to explore new ways to wear and accessorize those staple pieces.

Summer's been unfolding in beautiful colors, ripening fruit and very warm temperatures. Instead of taking the dogs for a walk in the afternoon I get up early in morning, when it is still relatively cool from the night. Everything looks beautiful and fresh then, and it is when I take most of my pictures. I hope you also enjoy the photos I took during a very enjoyable lunch at the Villa Gallici in Aix-en-Provence.. the romantic setting and plush decorations make it a haven of comfort, and the food is wonderful and delicious too. Thankfully a thunderstorm last week caused the temperatures to drop from the heatwave that lingered for far too long over most of Europe, and one can almost feel that autumn will be around the corner soon. My scarves are making a re-appearance in the form of belts and sashes, or tied in cool and breezy knots which don't come into much contact with the skin, and featherlight mousseline scarves are of course perfect for the summer!

I am incredibly excited and happy to launch a new collection of reversible scarf rings today. It's been a long work process to achieve perfection, and I couldn't be more pleased with the result. The new rings are available in all three Classique ring sizes (Petite, Moyenne and Grande) and come with a gold or silver plated metal base. Our summer has been long and hot, which is why I am all the more excited for the scarf season to approach and to post an autumn blog. Also, perfect timing to introduce the new scarf rings! The outfit and scarf combinations below are inspired by the current fall windows at Hermes in Paris and pictures of nature I take when walking the dogs (instagram.com/the.wiener.boys/) in the Southern French countryside.

For now, it is only our nights and mornings that are wonderfully fresh and cool, it still gets summery and hot in the daytime. The clothes I am wearing are therefore still quite light... if you live in a cooler climate just imagine them with long sleeves!

It's been a while and it seems like autumn just flew by. We've had plenty of (much needed) rain in the past weeks which is wonderful for nature, but not great for blogging/taking pictures. So when the sun came out again, albeit temporarily, it was such a joy to capture the remaining golden yellow foliage. At first I meant to include all pictures featuring the new long gemstone necklace into a single post, but as the number of pictures and ideas grew, I decided to split them by color scheme (golden late autumn colors in the previous, and pastel winter colors in this post).

Festive season!

With Christmas almost here, I imagine everyone's very busy and I hope a festive spirit and holiday cheer is beginning to get hold. With all preparations in full swing, the run-up to Christmas is almost as fun and enjoyable as the holidays themselves. The pine cones, twigs and dried flowers I've collected throughout the year have received a coat of gold and silver, the house is decorated, the tree's brought home, the wine cellar stocked and the presents bought. Now it's time to bake, gift wrap and plan the holiday outfits!

With perfect timing, a big sister to the pearl collar necklaces has arrived: the Cascading Pearl Necklace consists of more than three hundred fresh-water pearls, strung into small strands, and arranged in sixty cascading rows. This season I am wrapping all gifts in glossy white paper, and then adding ornaments, ribbons and greenery for a festive touch. It is very similar to accessorizing a capsule wardrobe piece!

Putting an outfit together has just as much to do with the mood we're in as with the season, the kind of day ahead and our surroundings. We might feel adventurous or romantic, or want to be organized and disciplined. We might have been inspired by something new, or prefer the familar comfort of trusted wardrobe staples. There are so many different reasons that make us reach for our clothes, whether it's through rational focus, or a subconscious state of mind.

In the past few days, nothing else was as alluring and comfortable to me as the uniform I kept slipping back into: a pair of jeans, a black or blue fine-knitted wool sweater (Tippi from J.Crew is a favorite) and a cosy, block-coloured gilet which gives the perfect amount of warmth for winter days. Not sure what this says about my current state of mind, maybe it is the wish to simplify things for the early beginning of the New Year. Wearing the same clothes every day however, doesn't mean you have to look the same all the time. With a few accessories and minimal effort you can create many different looks, and perhaps it is because of this challenge that I'm in 'uniform mood' in the first place!

So let's pop the champagne cork! Here's to you my dearest readers, customers and friends, I am so very grateful to you all for your wonderful support over the years!

For this special 10th anniversary I thought I'd choose ten scarves and assemble a collage for each one, showing how they have appeared on the blog over the years. Each collage is followed by a current 2019 picture.

Whilst editing and choosing the images, it struck me what a great investment these accessories have been, they've truly passed the test of time. There isn't a bag, scarf, necklace or bracelet that I am not using to this day. The same is true for many capsule wardrobe pieces (if you've been reading this blog for a while you'll probably recognise quite a few of them time and time again).

The next decade will be interesting, I'll be moving from my mid-fifties towards sixty and beyond, and we shall find out how the accessoires and capsule wardrobe pieces evolve and fare! I hope that you will continue to join me on the journey. For anyone who has been a supporter in the past, whether by reading the blog, following me on social media or shopping at MaiTai Collection, thank you all so very much.

In a way, today's post is like a part two of the blog anniversary post from last month, since the Collection was born in the same year as the blog. What better way to celebrate the 10th year of the Collection than with a new collage!

The Collection is a dream come true for me. At heart it consists of items I always wished would exist, basically to enhance the pleasure we have from the wonderful things that come in orange boxes! As a scarf lover I longed for scarf rings in different sizes so that they would work with all scarf formats. I found it painful to have to store my scarves in plastic bags when traveling, and thought how wonderful a range of perfectly sized travel and storage pouches would be. Watching the interior of my beloved Hermes bags showing marks and scratches over time, made me think about a beautiful organizer that would protect my bags and more (the bag inserts line holds a special place in my heart, I've been wanting one from the day I owned my first Hermes bag). I am so grateful that through my blog there has been a chance to develop these lines, and to add other accessories too. None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for the support from all of you, my dear customers, friends and readers, thank you all so very much.

A very special thank you goes to the fabulous ladies who contributed to this collage. It makes me tremendously happy and proud to see the Collection's items worn beautifully and with style all over the world, and I love everyone's ideas and inspirational looks. Spring is here in full bloom and blossom, carrying the promise of long and warm days ahead and a sense of excitement that only the two big season changes can bring. As the days grow longer and warmer, and the wardrobe gets gradually switched from warm and cosy winter pieces to lighter fabrics and colors, it feels like shedding a cocoon. I've added a couple of new wardrobe staples to my capsule wardrobe, which are a perfect canvas for the spring collection of long gemstone necklaces and lighter and brighter scarves.

I hope everyone's enjoying a wonderful May and the explosion of blossoms and flowers that come with it. Ours has been partly summery and warm, but we've also had some cold wet windy days. My birthday fell on one of those, so we made up for it with a quick trip to Cannes a couple of days later where we had a lovely lunch on the beach to celebrate.

Magical dusk at the Baie of Cannes, when the Mediterranean sea turns into soft pastels framed by the foothills of the l'Esterel Mountains.

I am often asked about my lipstick, and the secret lies in mixing and matching. I use lip liner for definition, but make sure to fill the lips completely to avoid a 'lip-lined' look. My favorite liner pencils are Bois de Rose and Brun Tendre by Mavala. You can match your lipstick to your liner, or experiment by using different color combinations to achieve more depth, and to fine tune the end result to your outfit or scarf.

June has been an absolutely lovely month, the days were beautiful and sunny without being too hot, while nightly rain falls ensured that fields remained green and lush, and flowers and blossoms florishing everywhere. It's been an absolute joy to walk the dogs, camera on hand, of course.

For most of the last few weeks I've been busy with new projects (coming in the autumn) and products. The development and production stages always take much longer than you think, so I am glad that the new collection items I planned for the summer got perfected and ready just in time!

This summer we re-visited Los Angeles, one of our favorite places to be. Our days were spent seeing friends, relaxing and re-exploring all the things we love and enjoy doing there. Most of these places are featured in previous LA travelogues (click here), so this will just be a short postcard adding a couple of new things into the LA mix. To make up for the briefness of this post, a regular one will follow within the next couple of days.

TESLA and SPACEX

Excitingly, California is home to the two technology companies I follow with great interest and passion, Tesla and SpaceX.

With Tesla, Elon Musk is on the mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable and renewable transport, and to steer us away from meeting our daily transport needs by burning fossil fuels. Los Angeles' roads are a testimony to the success.. even though I stopped counting after the first hundred sightings, I never got tired of pointing out the Teslas (and other EVs), it was just thrilling to see just how many are embracing the change, which makes me hopeful for the future. Obviously, I would have loved to visit the Tesla factory in Fremont, but there wasn't enough time to include a trip to Northern California. Fortunately, SpaceX's headquarters are located in Hawthorne, near LAX.

SpaceX has revolutionised access to space by developing reusable rockets which dramatically cut the cost of space exploration. Instead of building rockets that burn up on entering Earth's atmosphere, SpaceX's rockets withstand the re-entry and land with pin-point precision on pads or drone ships, to be used again and again. I can vividly remember how excited I was watching the first Moon Landing with my parents fifty years ago at the age of 6. I would never have imagined it would take more than half a century for men to reach out to the stars again. Elon Musk's SpaceX is a big part of making this dream happen again.

Visiting SpaceX was obviously on top of my list, and even though they don't do factory tours (unless you know one of the employees), I very much wanted to see the very first stage orbital rocket that returned safely back to Earth (set up in front of their HQ) with my own eyes!

THE BROAD

The Board is a fun, modern art museum in Downtown LA, and since everyone wants to see the Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirror Rooms, the key to visiting is timing...the queues get longer and longer as the day goes on!

To avoid the no-reservation 'first comes, first serves' queues, book free tickets online (here), keeping in mind that during high season you'd have to book several weeks in advance. Make sure to book the earliest time available (11am on weekdays, 10am on weekends) and to arrive 20 -25 mins before the museum opens its doors. You will find yourself pretty much first in line, which is handy because you need a second reservation to access the mirror installation. Once the doors open you simply follow the museum's assistants, who steer you towards the iPad registration kiosk in the Lobby. There you enter your first name and mobile number, which gives you your approximate wait time. By the time you reach the mirror room, you're most likely already good to go in. This procedure saves you several hours of queuing, so it's well worth preparing!

Did I just write August into the headline... how is this possible? Life seems to be moving on with crazy speed!

While we still have warm weather in the afternoons in the South of France, the temperatures in Paris last week were already autumnal and cool. The perfect weather to discover the fall windows at FSH of course, and to find inspiration for autumn looks! The bags and accessories on display came in rich warm colors, and there couldn't have been a better backdrop for the introduction of the new gold-colored Anneau Infinity scarf ring, than the wardrobe choices that the windows inspired.

Zero-Gravity Scarf Rings and a New Scarf!

When the stars align...is there a better way to introduce a new scarf ring-type than with a new scarf!

This ring is born out of the love of how a scarf looks when worn off-center and having to find a way to beat the forces of gravity, which pull even the lightest silks swiftly back to the center.

I am so pleased with the resulting ring, which I named Zero-Gravity in honor of a job well done. It lets you arrange your scarf into an off-center position and keeps it there securely in place all day long. The scarf itself doesn't get pierced, of course. The Index Palmarum beautifully combines my love for nature and Hermes silks. The description on hermes.com (referring to the amazingly diverse colors and shapes of the palm species depicted on the scarf) sums it up perfectly:

"Is anything more creative than Mother Nature herself?"

My answer would, of course, be "no," but in this instance, Hermès' colorists come in a close second...the Ivoire/Vert Olive/Amande CW (01) is just fabulous - the colors are strong and at the same time soft without being too bright or washed out. The icing on the cake? A taupe contrast hem!
