The collage posts are very much one of my favorites and I am so thrilled to have received so many fabulous contributions since posting the last one in June this year.

Assembling the wonderful ideas and beautiful looks coming from so many different places around the globe into a collage makes me think of a tapestry woven with an unseen thread of friendship and shared likings, and brings tremendous joy and inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous ideas and style, dearest Anna, Anne, bagmoma, Carol, Catherine and Newton, Cecilia, Cynthia, Desert Mermaid, Faux Fuchsia, Fifi, H.O., happyface313, i.c_rus.7, Johanna, Katja, KS, Macs in the City, Manuela, Monica, Myriam, Paola and Veronika. You are the Best xx

Todays contributions come from: Arizona, Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Illinois, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Hampshire, Ohio, Russia, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Qatar and Washington.

January has been quite gloomy so far... we've had weeks of overcast skies this winter, which is unusal for the South of France. Occasionaly there has been a clear morning, but by mid-day it's mostly back to grey. Most years, winter is such a lovely season.. it comes with blue skies, crisp air and cosy home comforts. I hope the sun will make a comeback soon...I am longing to see nature being transformed into a sparkling winter's dream.

Capsule wardrobe pieces: blue jeans, cream silk blouse, grey sweater and black coat.
Accessories: Hermes 'La Femme aux Semelles de Vent' 90 carré in a pleated rectangular fold (click here for a how-to), end secured in a criss-cross knot with a MaiTai Collection shawl ring in black horn. Hermes 'chaine d'ancre' printed enamel bracelet and Birkin 35 in black.

January... when days are short and skies mainly grey, it's wonderful to make an escape to the little fishing village of Bouzigues, famous for its oysterbeds and seaside restaurants. Last week, we turned Wednesday into Sunday, and went to enjoy the catch of the day along with a fresh breeze from the sea.

'Le Grand Bleu' is our favorite. The service is warm and the food excellent, no wonder it's always packed... don't forget to make a reservation in advance.

Although it's a fish restaurant, I can never resist having Pimentos as a starter...they are so delicious.

The perfect wine to go with it..the local Picpoul de Pinet

And of course aioli, olive oil and 'Fleur de Sel' salt from the Camargue

  Beautiful soft light after lunch

Capsule wardrobe pieces: grey turtleneck sweater, blue jeans and a camel coat.
Accessories: Hermès Picotin 18 in bleu sapphire, Chaine d'ancre enamel bracelet and Evelyne gloves in camel

Postcard from Paris part one - FSH windows

It's been a long time since my last post on the window decorations at the Hermès flagship store in the Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré (FSH).. all recent Paris visits have coincided with the windows being  redecorated.

A couple of weeks ago I was so excited to see from far away that the orange blinds weren't drawn this time, and was much looking forward to capturing the treasures on display, only that after taking a few shots I must have inadvertently pressed a wrong button and changed my camera's settings to 'low-resolution'. The result has been that most of the pictures are blurry and unusable, and only a few have survived.

The windows themselves were modern and had a spacelab theme, which was my only consolation.. I would have been crestfallen had I missed out on bringing back pictures of opulent and romantic winter displays, and might have had to take a  train back the next day!

So here are the few pictures which are kind of acceptable. To make up for this, part II of the 'Postcard from Paris' is coming very soon. Have a wonderful weekend everyone xx

here's where the low resolution starts... so sorry

And the left bank store.. rue de Sèvres. The displays here are whimsical and playful... whale of a time!

Winter postcard from Paris

There is hardly a time of year when Paris isn't beautiful... on a clear winter's day a pastel sky reflects the soft colors of the buildings which line streets and boulevards, while restaurant and café lights cast a warm and inviting glow over the pavements.

This time we stayed at L'Hotel in the Rue des Beaux Arts in St Germain. I haven't been for a while, but the atmosphere is just as opulent, decadent and rock'n'roll as I remember it from my very first visits... almost thirty (!) years ago. Oscar Wilde famously lived and died here, and Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, Dali, Elizabeth Taylor, David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Johnny Depp are among the many famous guests who have come to enjoy the bohemian charm of L'Hotel.

View from the staircase

Velvet and leopard prints reign at L'Hotel

The twenty (some very tiny) bedrooms are arranged around the circular central atrium

Walking down the nearby Rue Grenelle I came across a store called Cos, a brand which specializes in neutral basics in interesting and often oversized cuts. The quality seems great and the prices are very good. I found two fabulous tops at 59 EUR each. What's more, they have online shops in many European countries as well as in the United States: www.cosstores.com

I could not find the dark blue silk panelled shirt online, but my favorite, the camel V-neck top, is at the moment still available in Europe and the US:
France: http://www.cosstores.com/fr/Women/Tops/V-neck_top/46885-40641780.1#c-24479

The sadness of leaving Paris is always sweetened by the fact that the train going home departs from the beautiful Gare de Lyon. It's wrought iron roof and old-fashioned station clocks are evocative of how romantic travel must have been at the beginning of the last century.

I always make sure to arrive early, so that there is enough time to raise a glass of champagne to Paris in the magnificently opulent and ornate Train Bleu station restaurant. It opened it's elegant mahogany doors in 1900 during the Great Exhibition, and its painted ceilings, gilt decoration, crisp tablecloths and shiny brass details make you feel as if you've been transported back into the Belle Époque.

Inspired by the many beautiful combinations in various blue and brown shades in the FSH windows, I paired my new camel top with a 'Cavelleria d'Etriers' shawl in bleu/violet/parme, worn in the basic bias fold.

Capsule wardrobe pieces: blue jeans and camel v-neck top

Winter holidays

Skiing holidays are always unpredictable... the weather can be anything from mild and sunny to icy temperatures and raging snowstorms, so packing covers a range of clothes, as well as books and games for entertainment, just in case. This year we were snowed in for most of the time, with the exception of just two mornings, when the storm clouds suddenly cleared to reveal the brightest and most beautiful blue sky. The snowfalls during the night before had covered the pistes with fresh and powdery snow, which made those two mornings truly exceptional, and the trip more than worth it in the end.

Much of our time was dedicated to après-ski, or should I say après-read... Drinks and chocolats chauds after long mornings or even whole days spent by the fire reading a book/having fun on Instagram.

To see a short clip of 'let it snow', click here

Ready for the piste, wearing my Zebra Pegasus 90 carré tied in a Cowboy knot (click here for a how-to), ends secured with a MaiTai Collection Classique Moyenne scarf ring in black horn.

Of course DS didn't mind the weather, and was ready to replenish burnt-off calories at any time

It was wonderful to come back home to blue skies, almond blossoms and mild temperatures. Some daring trees even started to give their new foliage a peek into the outside world..

Wearing my Brides de Gala Dip Dye, in reminiscence of DS's hot chocolate..

Capsule wardrobe pieces: ecru top, light beige cardigan and blue jeans/checked wool trousers
Accessories: Hermes 'Brides de Gala' Dip Dye 90 carré,  Kelly Double Tour bracelet in ebene with GHW and a Kelly 32 in Ebene. MaiTai Collection Anneau Infinity scarf ring in black horn
Scarf tying method: Half bow knot
Shoes: suede ankle boots/beige patent pumps (25 Belle Viviers)

For a casual alternative, replacing the checked trousers with jeans

Have a cosy remaining winter and a great upcoming spring everyone xx

Early spring - Capsule wardrobe # 165

The first signs of spring here in the South of France are always yellow.. in February the Mimosa trees start to blossom, followed by Daffodils and later Dandelions in the fields and between the vines.

As the weeks go by, the yellows gets warmer and richer in tone, which inevitably makes me  reach for my sunflower yellow La Presentation de Chevaux.

Capsule pieces: checked wool trousers and beige sweater
Accessories: Hermes La Presentation de Chevaux 90 carré, 'Grand Apparat' enamel bracelet, 'Karla' bracelet in caramel epsom and Kelly32 in ebene. MaiTai Collection Grande Classique scarf ring in black horn.
Shoes: patent flats (Ballerine U by Roger Vivier in sunflower yellow)
Scarf tying method: Pleated rectangular fold (click here for a how-to). I pleated the scarf very loosely for a soft and billowing effect. Since the scarf is vintage and therefore very soft and pliable, I used a Grande Classique instead of a shawl ring.

Variation: with a light beige laquered Grande Classique instead of black horn above

Variation: replacing the beige and brown capsule pieces above with grey

This year, spring has begun with a sparkle, and not just because of the crystal blue sky we've had this week. The appearance of tender green leaves and delicate blossoms has coincided with the arrival of the long awaited for sparkling bracelets and chandelier earrings.

The final prototypes arrived a few weeks ago... here sparkling up camel and ecru with chandelier earrings in mocca/crystal

There is no lovelier way to say goodbye to winter than to be outside and soak up spring's first warm rays of sunshine, whether for a walk or a cup of coffee with a little something.

The chandelier earrings come in four colors (rose, crystal/white, mocca/crystal and dove grey/silver) and with matching bracelets (here in mocca/crystal)

Wearing a 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carré in an Asymmetrical Wrap (click here for a how-to) and asparkling set in rose

sparkling bracelet andsequined stole in rose

The earrings and bracelets are made by hand from facetted crystal beads and stainless steel twisted wire. They add an instant glamorous touch to a casual daytime outfit, or turn a simple wardrobe piece into a sparkling evening look. For summer lunches or evenings, wear with a simple tunic, light shirt or dress.

I couldn't be happier with the Cos top I bought in Paris earlier this year.. despite many outtings, it still looks like new (amazingly enough, it is still available online on Cos'US site and French site)

Here a variation of the above look with a sequined stoleandsparkling set in rose

London, a new scarf and a scarf booklet give-away

It's been a bit longer than usual, and I am really sorry for the wait. Easter came and went, and the following week we left for England for a wedding, and then stayed in London for a few days. All in all it has been a very busy time, which is the reason this post is so late. To bridge the gaps between blog posts, my Instagram page is updated daily. It's not intended to replace the blog, but it is a great way to keep in touch and to share pictures which might not necessarily have a place elsewhere. Hope to see you there www.instagram.com/maitaicollection

Before heading to England, I bought a new scarf which I absolutely adore. Apart from the animals in the centre and a few color and design variations throughout, the scarf is very much symmetrical. As a result, there isn't a big difference between the two basic bias folds, but the beauty and richness of the African themed creatures, flora and border make more than up for it.

April this year has been warm and summery, the trees are already green and lush and the fields full of wildflower bloom.

I don't think I've ever started so early to tie my scarves in summery knots, but with the thermometer climbing up to 27 celsius last week, a light and airy scarf necklace turned out to be a great way to wear my Fleurs d'Indiennes 90 carré while the new MaiTai Collection cluster earrings in lemon complete the look by adding an extra summery touch (available here)

Capsule pieces: ecru cotton trousers and orange linen sweater
Accessories: Hermes 'Fleurs d'Indiennes' 90 carré, Clic-clac H enamel bracelet in bleu indiens and a Bolide 31 in Bleu de Prusse. MaiTai Collection Cluster earrings in lemon (available here)
Shoes: Superga sneakers
Scarf tying method: Scarf necklace (click here for a how-to) with ends secured in the basic slide with a Petite Classique scarf ring in sunshine honey (available here)

Variation - replacing the orange sweater with a dark blue shirt and the blue Bolide with a Picotin 22 in sanguine.

The cluster earrings come in lemon, cobalt blue and silver.. here pairing the cobalt blue with a Cavalleria d'Etriers cashmere shawl worn in the basic bias fold

More summery MaiTai Collection additions: the Turquenite statement necklace has been joined by a version in red and orange. Wearing the red with black trousers and an ecru silk shirt and an Hermès 'Capitales' printed enamel bracelet.

With warmer temperatures and longer days it will soon be time to get out favorite summer recipes... start a balmy summer night with strawberry Rossini cocktails and indulge with a mixed berry Pavlova for desert.

Cannes - part one

The beginning of May is probably my favorite time to go for a trip to Cannes and the Côte d'Azur. The weather is pleasantly warm and rarely too hot, and there are far fewer visitors than later in the summer. Most importantly though, this is when Cannes is at it's best.. the whole town is ready and prepared to host the glamorous Cannes Film Festival which usually starts Mid-May. Everything feels fresh and polished, with gardens and flowers maintained and manicured to perfection. The beaches have been replenished with fresh white sand and it seems that even the leaves of the Croisette's palm trees have been given a glistening coat in anticipation of the glamor and buzz to come. The weather forecast for last week promised sun and blue skies, so the decision to spend my birthday in Cannes was quickly made.

The weather forecast was right, and the Côte d'Azur lived up to it's name by displaying a dazzling array of sparkling blues.

White and yellow stripes... a French Riviera classic

Cannes' main promenade, La Croisette,  is lined with luxurious shops and hotels, and the Carlton is undoubtedly the most iconic of them all. This is where Hitchcock filmed 'To catch a thief' (some spectacular real life jewelry heists took place at the Carlton in recent years too) and where Grace Kelly encountered Prince Rainier III of Monaco during the Film Festival in 1955. The Carlton's beautiful elegant terrace faces the Croisette and the Mediterranean sea, and it is a wonderful place to have breakfast, afternoon coffee or drinks before dinner.

Next to the terrace, a 'Palme d'Or' palm leaf (symbol of the Cannes Film Festival) is held by a golden angel statue. The angel's beautiful feathered wings reminded me very much of Alice Shirley's 'Zebra Pegasus' scarf from the AW2014 collection.

Other favorite places in Cannes include the Gaston and Gastounette fish restaurant in the old part of town (Suquet quarter), and the secluded terrace of the Amiral bar at the Martinez Hotel (perfect for drinks after dinner and the most buzzing place in town after midnight during the festivals). Cannes' many beach clubs are wonderful places for lunch, and you can also rent a sun lounger and parasol for the day. The Zplage, the Miramar Plage and the Carlton Beach Restaurant are all fabulous. The Palais Stéphanie (now JW Marriott) has become a favorite place to stay. Built in 1992 it doesn't ooze art deco glamour, but I love the modern, chic and stylish decor of the rooms, and the location could not be better. The large rooftop terrace has a pool, jacuzzi and sun loungers, with sweeping views over the Bay of Cannes and the surrounding Esterel mountains.

Tunics are amongst my favorite summer wardrobe staples, they are so easy to wear and style. Teaming this beautifully embroidered and beaded sale find from Weills (from a couple of years back) with cool tones and a 'Ceintures et Liens' cashmere shawl in a triangular fold.

Capsule pieces: embroidered/beaded tunic and jeans
Accessories: Hermes 'Ceintures et Liens' cashmere GM, Clic-clac H enamel bracelet in bleu indiens and a Picotin 18 in Bleu Sapphire. MaiTai Collection Cluster earrings in lemon (available here)
Shoes: Castañer espadrilles wedges in turquoise

Capsule pieces: embroidered/beaded tunic and light ecru trousers
Accessories: Hermes 'Fantaisies Indiennes' Mousseline GM in a basic bias fold and Picotin 22 in Sanguine. MaiTai Collection Cluster earrings in lemon (available here) and long gemstone necklace

Monsieur Le Seagull is definitely ready for the Film Festival!

The Croisette offers more than just immaculate beaches, beautiful hotels and glamorous shops. When we walked over to the nearby Port Pierre Canto to catch the boat shuttle to the Sainte-Marguerite island for a celebration lunch, we passed by the 'Jardin de la Roseraie' (Rose garden), where a strikingly beautiful coral flower tree broke the neat line of palm trees, as if a precious bead had been placed in the middle of a string of pearls.

Ex-Libris' cashmere GM in a triangular fold

The breathtaking St Marguerite island

and the purpose of our island trip.. lunch at the  'La Guérite'

The atmosphere in the 'La Guérite' is relaxed and stylish...Robinson Crusoe chic!  The driftwood tables are planted straight into the sand, lounge chairs with striped cushions invite you to relax, and tables are set with crisp white napkins. The staff are friendly and warm, and they make sure that your visit to La Guérite will make a fun and memorable day. The cuisine is simple fresh Mediterranean, and a bit more expensive than town.. but because of the exceptional setting and atmosphere it is so well worth it. After lunch, you can spend the afternoon on the complimentary sunloungers, while taking in the amazing view over the bay of Cannes and the Golf of Juan.

The restaurant's shuttle, waiting to take us back to Cannes

This is another tunic which has been a great summer wardrobe staple for years. I love how easily it adapts to a variety of occasions, and from day to night. For a daytime look I paired it with a casual Picotin in sanguine and added a MaiTai Collection howlite statement necklace in orange for a little bit of extra summer chic.

For an evening look, the bag gets replaced by a pochette, and the ecru trousers by a black pair.

Capsule printed silk tunic with beige trousers (day) and black trousers (night)
Accessories: Hermes 'Kelly Dog' bracelet in black, Picotin 22 in sanguine (day) and Kelly Pochette in black croc (night). MaiTai Collection Summer statement necklace in orange (available here)
Shoes: Oran sandals (day) and black wedge sandals (night)

While assembling the pictures for this post, I looked at Cannes photos from previous years and found one from 25 years ago, taken on the Corniche above Cannes en route to my 28th birthday celebration lunch. Back then I loved wearing sunglasses, accessories and scarves as much as I do today. Only that my jewelry was mainly gold, and I wore mostly dresses and heels!

My precious pochette travelled safely in the new MaiTai Collection Kelly Pochette protective case and liner (available here)

Au revoir beautiful Cannes, until next time!

Early summer here has been the coolest and wettest for years, but it has had the wonderful side effect of producing wildflowers and green colours in places which normally would have been covered in dried out grass by now .

The Lyonnaise bakery in Nîmes

Meringues like summer clouds

On a visit to Zara last week I found three tops I absolutely love, all of which are still available online. The khaki bomber jacket is perfect for our current weather.. on a cool and rainy summer day a mix of subdued and lighter colors always works. The white and black layered tops are perfect with casual trousers, but also beautiful when dressed up for an evening.

From left to right: Bomber jacket (29.95 EUR), layered top (29.95 EUR) and long asymmetric top(19.95)

The new additions turned out to be a perfect match for my latest scarf, La Marche de Zambèze

With so much rain recently, the South of France (and the view from my office window) has certainly never been this lush in June!

Even with the strikes, demonstrations and Eurocup football matches, Paris was as beautiful and romantic as ever, but then again St Germain always is. Layered outfits were essential, as the weather can take you through several seasons within half a day, but if caught out by a sudden rainstorm  there is always a café nearby to find shelter (also a good excuse for having a little something!)

Ralph's is one of my favorite Paris  restaurants in summer. You couldn't imagine a more enchanting setting for an alfresco dinner. If anything, the courtyard is even more beautiful than when it opened a few years ago.. the plants have matured to form lush alcoves and niches, providing natural dividers for the pretty cobble-stoned courtyard (click here to see pictures from 2011).

The bar... a happy place to have a drink before dinner

In the meantime the light has turned soft and blue.. a perfect time to start dinner

Place de la Concorde with happy summer clouds and the Grand roue de Paris ferris wheel

As you can see, I absolutely love my new Zara pieces (click here to see them in the previous post). This time combining them with black trousers and RV pumps.

Capsule pieces: layered top and khaki bomber jacket (by Zara, see previous blog post), black trousers by MaxMara
Accessories: Hermes 'Ex-Libris en Kimonos' 90 carré, Caleche enamel bangle in black and gold and a Kelly 32 in ebene. MaiTai Collection pendant necklace in Or (available here)
Shoes: black patent leather pumps (Roger Vivier)

Street selfie!

The Saint-Germain Ladurée on Rue Bonaparte is another place I love coming back to.  It is never crowded, and feels like the neighborhood café. You hardly ever see a queue, and you don't even have to go past the macaron counter and (temptations way!)... you can use the side entrance in the rue Jacob to get to the salon de thé. The spacious light salon is tucked away in the back and is a wonderful place for breakfast or  a coffee in the afternoon. The hand painted walls feature exotic landscapes and animals in colors which match the blues, greens and reds of the whimsical Chinoiserie decor. (click here for pictures from a couple of years back).

The Blue Room dining room on the first floor is plush and intimate. It has low seating and twelve tables for two... what a great place for a small private party!

The elegant Place Vendôme is lined with watch and jewelry stores, most of which have an artisan and a small workshop on the premises. This is very useful place to know if your things only need a quick check or an easy part replacement..

Accessories: Hermes 'Ceintures et Liens' cashmere GM and Kelly Double Tour bracelet in ebene. MaiTai Collection long gemstone necklace in turquoise/citrine/smoky quarz (available here)

Roses Costes Dani Roses - one of my very favorite flower shops in Paris, filled with nothing else but fabulous roses. If you are staying for a few days in town, it is a special treat to buy a little bouquet for your home away from home.

As usual, our train back home starts from the Gare de Lyon. I'd never miss toasting Paris good-bye with a glass of champagne at the Train Bleu (although I once missed my train because of it). It is undoubtedly the most glamorous station restaurant and bar in Paris, and maybe the whole world. The hand-painted murals on the ceilings and walls show the regions in the South of France to where the trains set off from this station (click here to see more pictures of the Train Bleu)

The scene below (spanning both sides of the arch) shows a venue taking place in the early 20th century, at the Roman Theatre (1st AD) in Orange.

Two weeks earlier we'd been in the exact same theatre..

... at the final night of Hans Zimmer's European tour. It was a stunning and magical evening.

FSH windows and inspiration

The current Hermès windows evoke a carefree breezy summer vibe, and are held in beautiful neutrals with an occasional splash of color. The decoration consists of natural materials such as dried palm leaves, pebbles, sand and wooden beach loungers, all set against an amazing backdrop of palm tree photographs (byCecile Bortoletti)

The fabulous color schemes in the window displays can easily be adopted to give a basic neutral wardrobe a fresh summery look. Below a few pairings with pictures I found in my archives...

First collage - teaming a camel top and white jeans with a Hermes Picotin bag in sanguine and a MaiTai Collection howlite statement necklace in orange. Cluster earings in silver/crystal, also by MaiTai Collection.

I still remember the day the picture below was taken as if it was yesterday, but it goes back to August 2009. Our stay coincided with one of the hottest weeks Paris had had in years, which made it impossible to accessorize with anything but necklaces (here an Hermès Lena necklace in horn/silver)

This next outfit goes back only a couple of years (2014). Wearing a mousseline GM (Fantaisies Indiennes) in a vertical basic slide (click here for a how-to), secured with a MaiTai Collection shawl ring in black horn. Further accessories: Picotin 22 in sanguine and clic-H bracelet in marron glacé.

The last one is another recent picture from earlier this year. Wearing a 'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré as a necklace (click here for a how-to) and adding some extra sparkle with  MaiTai Collection sparkling bracelets and chandelier earrings in crystal

Edited to add: I posted this blog entry just hours before the horrific attack in Nice took place. What has been a joyous day in France turned at 22h30 into a traumatising nightmare, when brutal and senseless violence and death were inflicted on a huge number of innocent people. My thoughts are with the victims and their families.

Across France, Bastille Day is greeted with red, white and blue flags, and with fireworks and fêtes the night before.

There could not be a better occasion to play with the new sales items I found in Paris last week.. the pretty dresses by Maje (still available here) work beautifully worn as a tunic as well, and the simple but elegant thong sandals by Chanel have a perfect heel, which makes them so comfortable to wear.

Red and blue are definitely the colors of the week, and my fun and gorgeous feather bag charms by the talented LuxeLeatherCrafts arrived in time to join the party!

Continuing to draw inspiration from the current Hermès windows by teaming my blue sales dress with a new MaiTai Collection statement piece.. a Chrystal Cluster necklace in Charcoal Blue (also comes in Lavender Grey and Cinnamon Rose). My initial thought was to to introduce the necklaces for the festive season, but having tried them with various summer capsule pieces, I found that they are fabulous for all year round.

Variation in red with a Crystal Cluster necklace and matching bracelet in Cinnamon Rose

One mustn't forget that Rossinis are the perfect cocktail for this time of year, whether it is Bastille Day or not (for a recipe please click here)!

Capsule pieces: loose shift dresses in red and blue (Maje)
Bags: studded clutch by Zara (warm) and Hermes Mini Kelly in black croc (cool)
Accessoires: MaiTai Collection crystal cluster necklace and bracelet in Cinnamon rose (warm) and crystal cluster necklace Charcoal Blue (cool). Feather bag charm by LuxeLeatherCrafts (cool)
