Long gemstone necklace

$

Today introducing another new member to the MaiTai Collection, a long gemstone necklace made of genuine semi-precious stones. It adds easy and elegant chic to simple and casual outfits, and dresses up effortlessly a day look for an evening.

The necklaces are hand strung and knotted, and consist of genuine facetted garnet and smooth amazonite beads, as well as smooth and carved jade (turquoise and vieux d'or) and agate (plum and hot pink) accent beads. The facetted surfaces catch and reflect beautifully the light, adding a discreet sparkle to the ethnic chic carved jade and playful tassles.

The tassle part (tassle plus hand carved jade with a flower motif) is detachable, so you can attach your own favorite charm, or combine the tassle with other necklaces.

Rather than standing out, they seem to blend in softly with their surroundings. It's not the usual crisp and clear autumn this year, but just as beautiful in a different way.

Sometimes, everything just takes so much longer than one thinks.. I was hoping to introduce my new pearl statement necklace some time ago, but it just wasn't possible. And then days of rain and overcast skies came, with no chance to take picures of the necklaces or outfits to go with it. The last couple of days have been dry and sunny at last, and so here it finally is, the latest member of the MaiTai Collection family!

Clusters of fresh water pearls, facetted crystals and faux pearls are mixed with a variety of smaller beads and pearls. The chain and clasp are 925 silver.

A few days ago, a most wonderful and special surprise was waiting for me in the postbox... a breathtakingly beautiful 90 carré called 'Les Plaisirs du Froid', in ice blue, grey, ecru and gold...I literally gasped when I opened the envelope! The timing could not have been better.. the name translates into 'Pleasures of the cold', and with winter being finally here, there will be many opportunities to honor the theme of the scarf. Thank you so very much for this beautiful gift, my dearest darling Jerrine, I will treasure it forever, and think of you every time I wear it (which will be often!)

It's been a while and I hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful holiday season, and had a great start into the New Year.

The run up to Christmas has been incredibly busy, and between Xmas and the New Year, I took the time to do... Nothing! It was just wonderful to put the feet up, read, listen to music and spend time with my family.

Under the Christmas tree there were a few surprises which were just perfect for these blissfully cosy days... some new cashmere socks, books, a long knit cardigan, a pyjama..

Life has become busy since then, but hope you enjoy some home comfort pictures, some with new and others with old companions.

Double scarves, double fun - how to's

Doubling scarves is a wonderful way to add warmth, or to simply create volume or interest. As promised in my previous blog post, here are some how-to's and variations.

With 90 carrés

Fold both scarves in the basic bias. Wrap scarf #1 once around your neck, and place scarf #2 on top. Pull all four scarf ends through a smooth round ring (here an Anneau Infinity scarf ring in black lacquer), and push the ring up towards your neck.

Finding pairings is fun... you can match your scarves by color, pattern or design. Even unlikely candidates might go well together in the end, as the only visible part of scarf #1 is the centre, whereas scarf #2 shows both corners and almost the full bias fold.

This knot works great when you'd like to highlight a scarf's centre while hiding it's corners, or vice versa.  Below the same two scarves, but in reversed order, showing the different effects the placing of them have.

Variation: Fold both scarves in the basic bias and place around your neck, then pull their ends through a round and smooth scarf ring (here an Anneau Infinity scarf ring in black lacquer)

'Mythique Phoenix' and 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carrés

As above, but ends pulled through a shawl ring (in ebony) in a vertical basic slide

'Carré en Carré' and 'Monsieur et Madame' 90 carrés

Double basic bias fold
Fold both scarves in the basic bias, and place one on top of the other. Slide a shawl ring (here in black horn) to the centre, then place the resulting scarf band around your neck (the shawl ring holds the scarves together, and prevents them from  sliding once they are placed around your neck)

'Mythique Phoenix' and 'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carrés

Criss-cross bow knot with a 90 carré and a mousseline PM. Fold both scarves in the basic bias fold, then slide a Grande Classique scarf ring up both scarf ends on one side, and proceed with the criss-cross bow knot as shown here

'Carré Kantha' 90 carré and 'Au Coeur de la Vie' PM mousseline

As above, with a'Zebra Pegasus' 90 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

With 70 carrés

Fold two 70 carrés in the basic bias fold and place around your neck. Then pull all four scarf ends through a smooth round ring (here an Anneau Infinity scarf ring in black lacquer), and push the ring up towards your neck.

'C'est la fête' and 'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carrés

As above, but with a PM mousseline instead of the second 70 carrée

'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

With a Plissé in a Twist wrap: Fold both scarves in the basic bias, and place around your neck. Follow the instructions for the twist wrap, using a Grande Classique scarf ring (here in black horn)

'Projet Carré' Plissé and 'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré

Variation: as above, but replacing the Plissé with a Mousseline PM scarf (with a Grande Classique scarf ring in regular Mother of Pearl)

'Chaînes et Gourmettes' 70 carré and 'Belles du Mexique' mousseline PM

I'll be away for a few days, and look forward to catching up with you by the end of the month xx

Paris

Paris last week felt much more sombre than on other visits. It was cold, and the skies were dark and cloudy, as if reflecting the grief and sadness caused by the events earlier in the month.

Heightened security was to be seen and felt everywhere... armed guards and police patroled the streets, and FSH and many other stores had extra security, checking everyone's bags upon entering. 'Je suis Charlie' posters and banners were to be seen in countless windows and on walls showing their solidarity with the victims, and tributes in the form of flowers, pens, letters and candles were left where the events took place.

FSH's windows have changed since my last visit, and the face of the building was lit in a soft glow. A post with pictures of the displays will follow soon.

Many fashion fairs and salons took place that week, and while sourcing materials and talking to manufacturers, I came across 'Pilus' and asked them if they still make the lovely faux fur ankle boot slippers I wore in a recent blog post, telling them that the ladies in Le Salon could not find them anywhere, and that Google searches resulted in "plus sized slippers". They were thrilled, but désolée for having none left (mine were from AW2013). The new collection is not the same, but I found some beautiful items from other small manufactures which will be joining the collection in the months to come.

The jewellery suppliers section of another show transformed the exhibition hall into Aladdin's cave... strands and strands of semi-precious stones, beads, pearls and crystals in every color, shape and size imaginable were hanging from pegs and bars or were piled into boxes.

The SS2015 scarf booklets are out... I only wish I had more than just four to give away.

To enter the mini-giveaway nothing other is required than to enter your email address into the form below. But if you feel like it, your support in the form of a Facebook like, or a subscription to my Pinterest boards, YouTube channel or email updates is always much appreciated.

Your email address will not be publicly displayed, or forwarded to third parties. You can choose any username/nick/ID to enter the giveaway. I am sorry for the shortness of this post, but it's been hectic since I got back and I'm still battling with the flu I caught on my return journey. Pictures of the current FSH windows next, hopefully in a few days.

Have a great week ahead everyone xx

FSH winter windows - part I of II

Hermès' winter windows in the rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré were full of playful juxtapositions... almost every display featured either a Gulliver sized bag, jacket or pair of boots, or the tiniest shoes and boots imaginable. There was also a saddle that could only fit a miniature horse, and a coat as long as a wedding dress train. The oversized items made anything arranged right next to them appear tiny.. a pair of regular Jumping boots placed along side a huge Convoyer bag looked as if they are a toy soldiers', whereas a pair of tiny suede boots made a 35 Kelly look like a travel bag. In the photos it can be difficult to see which of the objects are the real size, and some are more obvious than others. On top of the staircase to the first floor, visitors were greeted by an oversized Kelly...without placing my 35 Birkin in front it would have been difficult to capture it's size!

Coming tomorrow: part II  (final part)

Have a wonderful Sunday xx

When in Paris a couple of weeks ago, the sales were still in full swing. I am not often lucky at sales, either the sizes are all gone, or the items are not quite right. I only went to two places, Gerard Darel and Georges Rech, and wonderfully enough, found great additions to my wardrobe in both (some of the items are still on sale online). The black basics fill a gap in my capsule pieces, but they are also versatile enough to go beyond winter wear, and will be great for cooler spring and early summer days. And then I found something at Hermès too..

My first purchase was a long black cardigan by Gerard Darel. It is casual and cosy, and has a similar cut and feel to the bordeaux cardie I bought last autumn, only that the knit is heavier. I wanted to be able to wrap it around me like a cocoon, so I chose it in one size bigger than my usual (here online)

For the moment, I'm teaming the cardie with black sweaters, jeans, dresses and boots. Once the days get longer, it will double as a light spring coat, and get mixed with lighter and brighter colors

left winter, right spring/summer

This linen sweater in burnt orange was love at first sight, and the only non-sale item in my shopping basket. The color is fabulous, and wonderfully versatile.. it works great with grey, blue, cream, white, black, khaki, yellow... the possibilities are endless, a real coup de coeur! (here online)

Love the embroidered lace collar of this Merino wool sleeveless top (here online). It gives an instant dressy touch to a little black cardie or jacket, and works all year round.

This beautiful oatmeal cashmere sweater was another happy sale item (here online). Worn with muted colors it is great for the remainder of winter, and mixed with with creams and whites it will be perfect for spring and cooler early summer days.

Spring version with 'Aux Pays des Epices' in a reversed basic bias fold, secured with a lacquered Anneau Infinity scarf ring in clay

My next stop was at Georges Rech/Apostroph. I already have a lighter fabric version of this bi-material coat in dark blue (worn here and here), which I absolutely love. I've been wanting to add a black version in a slightly thicker material for some time, and felt very lucky when I saw it on sale with 50% off the price tag. (it is still available online in the lighter material, in blue, black and beige)

And finally the orange box!

It is a small box, holding a small bag.

I am so happy and excited about my first Picotin in the PM (18) size! It is incredibly cute, and will be wonderful for the summer. Bleu Sapphire is a deep and dark blue, and easy to wear.. perfect to go with jeans.

Ms Bleu Sapphire is also my first bag lucky enough to have an insert already waiting for it!

Picotin PM in bleu sapphire with Picotin PM insert in taupe

Once we started to feel better,

the skies cleared up too, and we had some fantastic skiing.

This year I bought my first a helmet. A few years ago, hardly anyone was wearing them apart from the kids, but each year more and more people do. I love the attached visor on this one, and as a wonderful benefit, it keeps the head warm and protected from icy February winds.

Mont Blanc

With 'helmet hair' (actually, there is hardly any difference from my usual hair... it is so flat that it qualifies as helmet hair for most of the year!) and my beautiful 'Les Plaisir du Froid' 90 Carré in a close to the neck cowboy knot, ends secured in the basic slide with a Grande Classique scarf ring in black horn.

Les Plaisirs du Froid

This post comes so much later than I intended it to. Keeping up with orders, administration, organisation, requests and projects, and running everything smoothly (including my home), seems to take up more and more time, and always more than the days have. I am so incredibly sorry the blog has suffered a little bit lately as a result, and I miss participating in the fun of Le Salon. I hope you ladies keep the party going for the time being. I am working on improving my systems and hope it will result in saving time in the long run. In the meantime, I'll post as much and as frequently as I can, and wishing you all a wonderful start into spring xx

New necklaces and summer additions

The arrival of the first warm and summery days coincided with the arrival of the new necklaces I was so excited to discover when in Paris last January. They have clean and contemporary lines, which gives an easy, chic and stylish finishing touch to casual as well as dressy looks. I previously  tried them with wintery wardrobe items, and they were fabulous in combination with sweaters, dresses and cardigans. It's been great fun to pair them with spring and summer looks for this post, they are truly wonderful for all year round.

The bright and sunny days have also inspired a couple of summer wardrobe purchases. The patterned silk top with abstract red flowers was simply love at first sight. It can be worn as a blouse or jacket, and dressed up and down with ease. The flowers have a lovely variety of shades of red, which makes it easy to combine with other items. I bought it at Max Mara, but couldn't find an online link (according to the label the model number is 1111085200).  The trousers (also by Max Mara) are a much needed replacement for a pair of light cotton trousers which came to the end of their life. The b&w printed tunic top is from www.comptoirdescotonniers.com, and gives a fresh touch to black and white summer outfits. It can be worn as a dress, tunic or even a shirt, as it tucks easily into a pair of trousers.

Today's post is the wonderful result of a joint production of sammie, Azalie and Kendal. A huge thank you to the 'fabulous three' for sharing your beautiful interpretations of the green style sheets, and an extra big merci to sammie for putting this post together and for producing such a fantastic slide show (please click on the links below) to go with each stylesheet and look.

Handing over to sammie:

Green.   It's the color the human eye sees first, at 525 nanometers. It's where this story begins. All inspired by MaiTai's green style sheets.  Azalie styles 'Oleander' and 'Trumpets' by making it her own with a brim.  Kendal styles 'Satory' and 'Dendrobium' with a slim skirt to make it her own looking trim.  Sammie styles 'Vosges' and 'Flore' with two 90cm silks squares to make it her own in with a Boho grin.  Come join us on our green limb!
