It's been a while, and I hope everyone has enjoyed a happy and beautiful summer. We've been on a round-trip through England, from the North down to London, to the South West and Wales, seeing family and friends.

Back home, July and August are the hottest months of the year, and so it was wonderful to breathe some cooler air, and to walk across green hills and fields. We were so lucky with the weather, most of the time it was clear and sunny, and nothing beats the beauty of the English countryside on days like this.

My capsule wardrobe makes packing easy, and trusted combinations of staple pieces sometimes only need slight changes to adapt them to different times and places. The style sheet below is a variation of what I wore in Paris a couple of months ago, only that I changed the trousers from red to blue, and left out the blazer, which made it a perfect day look for a walk in the English countryside.

Capsule wardrobe pieces: Blue cotton trousers and printed cotton blouse
Shoes: Canvas sneakers
Accessories:Hermès 'Ceintures et Liens' cashmere GM and 'Chaine d'ancre' printed enamel bracelet
Scarf tying method: Cowboy knotsecured with a Anneau Infinity scarf ring in black horn

It's been quite a while since I lived in London for a few years, and whenever I go back, it's great fun to see the changes in this vibrant place, but I also love to visit old favourite spots. Back then (DS was still a toddler), I used to make frequent trips to the Poilâne bakery in Elizabeth Street to get some of their wonderful bread (they've opened a second store in Cadogan Gardens, Chelsea since then).

I never rushed straight back home, as Elizabeth Street is a such a lovely place to be. Lined with cafés, shops and restaurants, it feels more like a little village than a street in a big city.

Some shops have changed since I was last there, but many others are still the same. You find a hat maker, picture framers, perfumers, stationers, wine merchants and wine bars, clothing shops, a cigar cave, cake makers and many more.

Peggy Porschen is one of the newer additions, in 2010 she opened her beautiful little cake shop on the corner of Ebury Street. Her cakes and cookies are the prettiest you'll ever see, and on a sunny day you can enjoy her beautiful creations on pastel coloured tables and chairs on the pavement, with a cup of coffee or tea, or a glass of pink champagne.

With so many inviting places, Elizabeth Street is also a perfect place to visit around lunchtime

The Ebury Street Restaurant and Wine Bar, on the corner of Ebury Street

At No 42, you find Jo Malone's new 'Jo Loves' shop, which carries a beautiful array of scented candles, bath colognes and perfumes. The store opened in 2013, seven years after Jo Malone sold her last remaining shares of her previous company, which was bought in 1999 by Estée Lauder and then turned into an international brand.

A Philip Treacy hat creation at No 69, and correspondence cards by the Grosvenor Stationary Company at No 47.

Almost across from Peggy Porschen on Ebury street, you'll find Floris, the oldest independent family perfume maker in the world (established in 1730) and the only appointed perfumer to the Queen. In beautiful traditional packaging, Floris offers more than 40 fragrances, a bespoke service and a line of scented  body and bath products.

If you follow Ebury Street further down, you'll get within a few minutes to Pimlico Road.

The square where both streets meet is called Orange Square (or 'Mozart square' because of the statue of the Austrian composer at it's centre), and on Saturday mornings this is where a most charming farmer's market takes place. It used to be our favourite, and always a lovely way to start the weekend.

The square is lined with beautiful furniture, decorating and interior design shops, a cute children's toy shop (Semmalina), Nikki Tibbles''Wild at Heart' flower shop, the Orange Pub and the french 'Poule au Pot' restaurant, which is always wonderful and fun

'La Poule au Pot'

The quaint and picturesque Fox and Hounds Pub, located in a little side street (Passmore Street) off the Pimlico Road

Just before you get to Passmoore Street, you come past David Linley's Shop, where you can buy exquisitely made wooden furniture or order outstanding bespoke pieces. The small items on offer make wonderful gifts or accessories for the home, and the cheese knife I've had for more than fifteen years is still my absolute favourite.

Postcard from London - Chelsea

The Bluebird Restaurant in Chelsea is one of the places I would not want to miss when in London, however short the visit... every lunch I have ever had there has always been a great and happy event. It carries all the trademarks of a Terence Conran restaurant.. modern and stylish decor, comfortable seating and wonderful food.

The Bluebird is located at the top of Chelsea's King's Road just before 'the world's end', which was originally build as a private road for King Charles II in 1830. In the swinging sixties the King's Road came to fame as the hippest place to be, and in the seventies it took centre stage at the birth of punk. Cafés, antique shops, independent boutiques and some high street shops line the two mile stretch between Sloane Square and the border of Fulham, (the world's end!).

One of the shops next to the Bluebird is the Leggera Nell'Aria, where a pretty green and white tunic caught my eye as I walked past.

The tunics are made from featherlight cotton, which make them a perfect cover up for the beach or pool side

This is the one that came home with me, love the little pearl detail on the hem

more of Leggera Nell'Aria..

Across the road, you find Rococo Chocolates, which is another old favorite. Their chocolates and truffles are a delight, and because of the pretty packaging, they make wonderful gifts too.

Rococo's fresh, contrasting blue and white packing inspired a dark blue combination with my new top back home, I teamed it with a dark blue blazer and trousers, and a 90 carré (La femme aux semmelles de vent) worn as a belt (secured with a Grande regular MoP scarf ring in the basic slide

Back on the King's Road... a few blocks further down, tucked away in a side street, you'll find Manolo Blahnik's first shoe boutique and only flagship store, almost hidden behind an unassuming storefront. Inside, the shop is cosy and intimate.. it is furnished like an apartment, with comfortable sofas and armchairs, soft colored walls and a fireplace.

Other great spots on the King's Road:
(in geographical order, from East to West, starting at Sloane's Square)
Emma Hope (shoes), 53 Sloane Square
Café Colbert, 50-52 Sloane Square

Cath Kidston, 27 King's Road
Duke of York Square (Shops, restaurants and the Saatchi Gallery), just off the King's Road
Blue Velvet (shoes): 174 King's Rd, where I bought a pair of incredibly comfortable ballet flats: Sport ballerinas 'Natural snake print with taupe rim', Code No. RB22)
Green and Stone (artist's material), 259 King's Road, www.greenandstone.com

Designers Guild, 267-277 King's Road
Vivienne Westwood (birthplace of punk), World's End, 430 King's Road

Postcards from London - South Kensington and Knightsbridge

The London postcard series is coming to an end, but would not be complete without a stroll through South Kensington.. it is such a lovely part of town, and a wonderful place for shopping and eating.

The neighbourhood is beautifully calm, and quiet side streets are lined with trees that have pink blossoms in spring, and white terraced houses. Their glossy black doors have house numbers and door knockers in polished brass, and are flanked by immaculately trimmed bay or box trees, or urns filled with flowers.

The cross roads are lively with many shops and restaurants, but in comparison to London's big shopping streets, it feels as if you are walking in a residential shopping area. Brompton Cross is a perfect starting point. It is dominated by the iconic art deco Michelin Building, where you find the Bibendum oyster and champagne bar in the basement, as well as the chic and stylish Conran shop (furniture and home accessories, founded by Bluebird's owner Terence Conran). From here, you can explore the nearby fashion boutiques on Sloane Avenue, Draycott Avenue, Old Brompton Road and Pelham Street.

The Brompton Cross is also just 'A short walk from Harrods'. Walk down Walton Street for about a kilometer, and you'll pass by lovely and interesting boutiques and galleries until you reach the famous department store (even if you don't have much time, it's worth checking out the opulent food halls), and to it's more cutting edge neighbour, Harvey Nichols.

Dragons of Walton Street offers hand-painted children's furniture (they also have a bespoke service), as well as toys and accessories (Prince George's nursery furniture was purchased from Dragons)

Chelsea Textiles at No 13 is another long-time favorite, their hand-embroidered fabrics are wonderfully luxurious and beautiful. They also carry a range of ready made curtains, pillows and other small home and tableware items

Just before you get to Harrods, you come past Beauchamp Place on your left. At No 22 you'll find San Lorenzo, a beautiful trattoria with a rich history, founded by Mara Berni and her husband Lorenzo. It offers northern italian food, and has been a neighborhood restaurant as well as a favorite haunt of famous figures ever since it opened in 1963.

Ending the London series with my current favorite place to stay. The chic and tranquil 'Number Sixteen' in Sumner Place is beautifully decorated, has warm and welcoming staff, and could not be in a better position.

Tucked away in a quiet side street, it's a short walk to Brompton Cross, and just around the corner from the bustling South Kensington tube station. It's five minutes away from some of London's best museums (the fabulous Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Science and the Natural History Museum for children of any age), and within 10 minutes, you can walk to the Bluebird and King's Road.

My Kachinas Maxi Twilly London souvenir reminds me of the fun and whimsical sculpture in No 16's drawing room

A new scarf and a style challenge

This season it didn't take me long to find my favorite scarf... when I saw the beautiful Zebra Pegasus, I fell for it immediately. It also fulfilled the other criteria on  how to choose a scarf like a breeze, and while the neutral colored feathers match perfectly with many of my capsule pieces, the mauve/pink background adds a new dimension to my wardrobe.

Zebra Pegasus, design by Alice Shirley

Ref 002816S CW13 (vieux rose/noir/gris bleute)

Today's stylesheet playtime also coincides with styling request submitted by ilsa a few weeks ago:

I .. came home with not one, but two new scarves... Zebra Pegasus in Vieux rose/noir/gris bleute.. this design it's amazing isn't it.. and Voyage en Etoffes..

So if you are so kind, and have some time and feel like playing, your suggestions will be more than welcome!!!

Thanks again for sharing your beauty and joie de vivre with us!!!!

Regards from Barcelona

This scarf lends itself to so many possibilities, and definitely made me feel like playing! Our temperatures are still summery, but autumn is around the corner... so the style sheets reflect a bit of both seasons.

Postcard from the Camargue

It's been a couple of weeks since we stayed in the beautiful Camargue, and it took me quite a long time to sort through the hundreds of pictures I took in this magical place...

The Camargue is unlike any other place in France, or Europe. It's a wide and vast flat land, and consists of lakes and lagoons (étangs), reed covered marshes and sandy beaches. In the étangs you'll see wild pink flamingos among hundreds of other species of birds, and the stunning marshland scenery is dotted with black bulls and white Camargue horses. Many of the horses live as free-running herds, and only get occasionaly driven into the Manades (bull farm) by the cowboys of the Camargue (Gardians).

In the middle of this paradise, there is the tranquil and beautiful Mas de la Fouque. The many lounging areas of this 'petit paradis' invite you to relax and observe the surrounding beauty.

Instead of booking a room, you can stay in one of the converted gypsy caravans, overlooking the gardens and lake.

the restaurant

Naturally, the restaurant favours local Camargue sea salt: 'Fleurs de Sel' by Le Saunier De Camargue.

Marius, the Mas de la Fouque's mascot

The best way to explore the beauty of the Camargue is by safari (4x4) or horseback. We booked a two hour 'Ballade à Cheval' at the Les Arnelles Equestrian Center, which led us discover places we would have otherwise not seen... we rode past thousands of flamingoes along the étangs, and saw Camargue bulls and horses roaming through marshes and fields. Eventually we arrived at the mediterranean coast, where the fine sand beach went on for miles and was almost deserted. It was fantastic.

Wearing my Jumping boots for the first time this season, there could not have been a better occasion!

(You don't have to be an experienced rider for this. The stable has horses for all levels, and the guides make sure that beginners have a safe and comfortable experience. Advanced riders are given the chance to galop along the marshes and beach. All in all, it was an unforgettable memory for everybody!)

Lacquer collection

$

For a long time I've been wanting to expand the choices of my scarf and shawl rings, and to offer them in a range of high quality lacquer in beautiful colors.

In the beginning, I thought the process of lacquering would also be a wonderful way to rescue horn or wood rings which, although perfect in shape and craftsmanship, came in colors that fell out of the color families. But during the research, tests and trials it became clear that the lacquer collection would become much more than a rescue operation... the exquisite quality of lacquer with it's high polished finishes and fantastic color possibities make them a fresh and modern companion for our scarves, and perfect to compliment/expand the natural shades of the horn and wood collection.

It took a long time finding lacquer artists who could produce the outstanding quality I was looking for. Many more trials to get the colors right followed. They had to be more than just beautiful shades, but also to be versatile enough to blend in easily with the various colors surrounding them (see examples with scarves below). I am so happy to finally be able to bring you the MT scarf and shawl ring lacquer collection, available in seven colors:

Vert Sapin

Clay

Bordeaux

Vieux Rose

The base of the lacquered rings are exquisitely hand made horn or wood rings from my collection. For price information or to place an order, please go to: www.scarfrings.com

Lacquered items have an extremely smooth, hard and durable surface. To ensure that your lacquered scarf and shawl rings keep their perfect shine, and to protect them from surface scratches, please store them in the velvet pouch they come with. Also note that lacquer might chip if dropped from a height onto a hard surface.

Apart from replacing a few items with similar staples (jeans, sweaters etc), my autumn acquisitions consist of just three pieces so far. It may not seem a lot, but they go a long way.. opening up many new ways to mix and combine, and giving my wardrobe a wonderful new twist.

Woman's Hayword Cardigan (detail) by American Vintage, with Zebra Pegasus 90 carré

Our temperatures are already cool and autumn like in the mornings and evenings, but by mid-day it gets warm and summery again (with temperatures climbing to 25˚celsius). Most days I dress in light capsule wardrobe pieces, and then supplement them with various layers to adapt to the changes in temperature. The scarf fur collar is perfect to keep the neck warm against the early morning autumn chill, and later in the day, the mousseline is wonderfully light and airy for solo wear.

In an unusual way, the scarves are presented in lots of two (from 8018 to 8130). The combinations are beautifully put together... I ended up clicking onto each scarf, just to find out which one it would be paired up with!

Maxi Twilly Tutorial

I almost forgot about the tutorial for the Maxi Twilly criss-cross and criss-cross bow knot. Many thanks to Jo for reminding me!

Basic step for both: Fold your Maxi Twilly in half, and align the edges. Then fold lengthwise in half, and place the resulting strip around your neck

Criss-cross knot
From left to right: slide a Grande Classique scarf ring up the open-ended side of your Maxi Twilly (open ends indicated by pink arrows), and create a loop by pulling the scarf out of the ring

Take the opposite end of your Maxi Twilly, and pull through the loop you just created

Arrange the ends

Criss-cross bow knot
with leopard print shirt, from Capsule wardrobe post #142

Place your Maxi Twilly around your neck, and slide the scarf ring up the open-ended side as before

Fold the other end of you Maxi Twilly over itself and scrunch together to create a bow. Slide the bow through the loop as indicated by the arrow.

Arrange the folds
